A New Way to Wellness: Bringing Vegan Soy Candles into the Home
The benefits of aromatherapy, essential oils and bringing a sense of relaxation into the home are some of the latest and most talked-about health and wellbeing trends. Scented soy candles are a clean, accessible alternative to add to your toolkit and a much-loved self-care item. Best of all, these delightful treats have the quality of ancient burning rituals and can help purify your room and home.
With so many options on the market, how can you know which brands you’ll benefit from and which can leave behind a toxic residue? Let’s consider some of the qualities of these products, so you can make the right choice for your wellbeing needs.
Soy Scented Candles: Healthy or Harmful?
One hot topic among the community is the debate of using wax versus soy-based types. Is there a difference? And which should you choose? Let’s take a look at the pros and cons:
- Soy: While burning, these are reported to produce up to 90% less soot than paraffin wax candles. A more sustainable choice than paraffin, soy is a renewable resource that burns longer when used as the base for a candle, making the slightly higher price point worth it.
- Wax: All options like this have a wax base – but which is the best for you? The four most common waxes used in this process are beeswax, paraffin, coconut and soy. Although paraffins have historically been the most common, paraffin is actually a by-product of petroleum and can leave toxic fumes in the home. More recently, beeswax and coconut formulas have made it into the market as a less synthetic, more sustainable solution.
If you’re concerned about the residue left behind, one of the key deciding factors should be which type of wax base was used during the process. 100% beeswax, soy and vegetable-oil wax candles (meaning, they have not been blended with paraffin) are your best bet for a base, while pure essential oils (in place of synthetic fragrances) are the best option for how the product has been scented. One additional feature to consider is the wick. If possible, unbleached cotton wicks offer the cleanest burn with limited to no toxic fumes.
Give the Gift of Relaxation: Australian Vegan Candles
When looking for your next Kris Kringle or house-warming gift for a happy couple, consider gifting a natural, non-toxic product. With the added benefits of aromatherapy, scented creations like this are a warm addition to any home, office or workplace and can be a great gift for any friend.
When considering which brand to buy, look for a beeswax, soy, coconut, or vegetable-oil base to minimise the risk of gifting toxic fumes. Further, if possible look for naturally fragranced options with an unbleached, not wax-coated wick. When sharing the love of health and wellness you don’t have to break the bank or try to guess at someone’s dietary needs; instead, give the gift of an eco-home product like this – their air, space, and mind will thank you for it.
